About me
My life has been spent perpetually on the move. Born in Wales, lived briefly in England, raised in New Zealand - before finding home in the heart of London. I've lived and worked in places as diverse as Boston, Kuwait, Paris, Italy, Spain, Rhodes, Auckland, and Thailand. I've visited far more. Now I'm trying to spent my time in the warmth of the Mediterranean, living on an island in the sunshine.
I'm learning to be a better chef, have an eclectic music collection - am surrounded by an ever growing library of novels, American comic-books, esoteric, philosophical, and technical manuals and other texts in my study. I love karaoke, intelligent philosophical conversation, beautiful people, good food, and the odd glass of good wine, beer or scotch.
As an old ski buff I've managed to ski the world. I've tried parachuting, hangliding, and flying. If life gives me time, I want to learn to scuba dive, write a few novels, paint nudes, and dance naked in the rain!
What I do
I've spent my working life in the IT industry - long enough to remember IBM mainframes using punched-cards and magnetic tape.
I've been many things in my career: Manager, Architect, Team Lead, Data Analyst, Database Administrator, and of course Developer.
Computing constantly evolves and I've spent more than four decades as a part of it: from early days using Mainframe Assembler, the usual classic languages, 4GLs, to early Windows development, and pioneer web sites, and lately in Azure cloud projects using the latest cutting edge technologies. This site, in one form or another, has been in existance since 1996.
These days, I'm attempting to semi-retire and work remotely, so I'm using my technical skills to make a living in consutancy as a digital nomad. I've become rather a fan of the latest Microsoft tool stack which is demonstrating a cool renaissance in quality and professionalism.
